On Novermber 24th, 2011, UT- HCMC cooperated with Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics – Bremen, Germany in holding the seminar “Sea Port and Their Hinterland Transport”

The seminar belongs to project’s framework “Environment Effectiveness Research Improvements by sustainably managing produce procedure and logistics” supported by Germany Ministry Education and Research. The seminar did attract a lot of audience and participants not only from the UT-HCMC but also from other companies

With the topic “Reducing Logistics costs by improving logistics performance-case of Vietnam”, Dr. Hồ Thị Thu Hòa (Lecturer from Transport Economics Faculty of UT-HCMC) commented that Vietnam’s logistics expense is quite high covering 25% GDP, higher than that of China (22.3%), Japan (11%), USA (10.1%), và EU (7.15%),… and make up approximately 30 – 40% product’s cost. ( while it is only 15% in other countries). In order to help Vietnam Logistics obtain the maximum profit, the responsibility not only belongs to all the related department but also the authority. All have to cooperate to push up the development of infrastructure, human resourcing, custom clearance procedure and technology, etc.

According to Prof.Dr.Hans-Dietrich Haasis, ISL Chairman in his report named “Efficiency and Effectiveness of the Nordrange Ports”, the elements leading to the port’success are convenient location, market share, transport market share, hinterland connection, logistics standard and services, structure and market size, etc. Efficiency and Effectiveness in modern logistics are related to cooperation and to communication between value chain partners and stakeholders of dynamic supply chain networks on a regional and on a global level.

During the seminar, professionals and enterprises did transfer, discuss all the concerned matters in logistics management, sea ports, and their hinterland. Delegates was also enjoy many realistic and useful reports in Logistics industry such as: “Port development in the close connection with the hinterland logistics-key factor for the success of Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) (Mr. Bui Van Quy- Marketing Director-SNP), “Forward-looking, neutral, collaborative: AWV- Partners for Business amd Administration (Mr. Uirich Naujokat, Executive Director AWV- Working Group for Efficient Administration; “Port Development-beyond the sea-land” ( Mr.Trần Nguyên Khôi, Chair of Business/ISL, the Bremen University); “Development of dry ports in Vietnam” (M.Sc. Nguyễn Hoàng Sang, Vietnam Sea Transport and Chartering Joint Stock Company)

In the afternoon of the same day, Dr.Nguyễn Văn Thư, President of UT-HCMC and Prof. Dr.Dietrich Haasis, ISL-Chairman signed the Memorandum of Agreement. According to this MOA, the two partners will cooperate in the fields of research activities and publishment, lecturers and students exchange, holding seminar, conference and academic programme; making efforts in searching support funds to serve the collaboration.
